Sociography

Privacy policy

Last updated 2026-10-20.

Sociography is a private tool operated by snout ("the operator"). This policy explains what the tool and this website do with information. The short version: the tool only handles the operator's own accounts and content, secrets stay on the operator's computer, nothing is sold or shared for advertising, and this website tracks nobody.

Who this applies to

Mainly the operator, who connects their own Facebook Pages, Instagram accounts and TikTok accounts. If you are someone else who has been asked to connect an account (for example a co-administrator of a Page), the same rules apply to what is collected from your connection.

What is collected when an account is connected

InformationWhere it is kept
Access tokens (and, for TikTok, a refresh token) that let the tool post to the connected accountOnly in the macOS Keychain on the operator's computer. They are never written to the database, logs, backups or this website.
The account's identifier, display name or username, the permissions you granted, and when the connection was made or last checkedA PostgreSQL database on the operator's computer.
Posts the operator prepares: captions, hashtags, schedule times, platform options, and the identifiers and links the platform returns after publishingThe same local database.
Images and videos the operator chooses to publishCopied to the operator's own storage bucket at Cloudflare (R2) and served at a public address on media.usesnout.com, because the platforms download media from a public address when publishing. Anything uploaded there can be fetched by anyone who has its address.
A record of actions (what was approved, scheduled, published or failed) and technical errors, with secrets removedThe local database and log files on the operator's computer.

The tool does not read your messages, friends or followers lists, or your personal profile. It reads only what is needed to publish: the account's identity, and recent posts on the connected account to check whether a scheduled post went out.

How information is used

Only to publish and schedule the operator's own posts, to show their status, to check that connections still work, and to keep a history of what was published. It is not used for advertising, profiling or analytics. The tool itself makes no calls to any AI service.

AI assistant. The operator may use an AI assistant (Claude, made by Anthropic) running on their own computer to read the operator's content folders, draft captions and operate the tool. The assistant can see the operator's content, captions, schedules, account names and identifiers, and the history of actions. It is never given access to tokens or secrets, and it cannot approve a post or connect an account: both need the operator's confirmation in a dialog on their computer. Anything the operator shows the assistant is processed by Anthropic under the operator's own agreement with Anthropic.

Who information is shared with

Nothing is sold, rented or shared with advertisers or data brokers.

This website

This website sets no cookies, loads no scripts, fonts or images from other sites, and has no analytics or advertising. The page that platforms redirect the operator's browser to while an account is being connected receives the one-time authorization code that the platform adds to the address, forwards the browser to the operator's own computer, and does not store or log it. Like any website, the network that serves it (Cloudflare) sees standard connection details such as IP addresses; the operator does not collect or analyse them.

How long information is kept

Security

Tokens are held in the operating system's Keychain. The tool listens only on the operator's own computer, connecting an account or approving a post requires the operator to confirm in a dialog on that computer, and secrets are removed from logs. No system is perfectly secure, and the tool is operated by one person.

Your choices and rights

You can disconnect an account and ask for your data to be deleted at any time: see How to disconnect and delete data. You can also write to support@usesnout.com to ask what is held about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under data-protection law, and you may complain to your local data-protection authority. The operator is based in England, so UK data-protection law applies, and in the UK you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Children

The tool is not directed at children and the operator does not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If the tool or this policy changes in a way that matters, this page is updated and the date above changes.
